The Dream of Handan tells the story of a man who falls asleep and experiences a vivid dream in which he rises to wealth, power, and success. He lives through glory, desire, and loss—only to awaken and realize that everything was an illusion. The play reflects on the fleeting nature of ambition and questions what truly matters in life.
My design emphasizes the contrast between reality and dream. The real world is presented in muted grey tones with simple silhouettes, while the dream world is rendered in vibrant colors with exaggerated, highly decorative costumes. This extreme visual contrast highlights the calm emptiness of reality versus the seductive beauty of illusion, reinforcing the emotional shift between the two worlds.
